Parent Information

Futurus High School is an alternative learning setting in Centralia School District directed under Washington State Alternative Learning Experience rules and laws governed by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. We are a school that caters to juniors, seniors, and 5th year seniors within the district, as well as its surrounding districts, where success in student achievement is guided by a caring and understanding staff, student ownership in learning, and through varied instructional approaches. The vision of our school is that all students will achieve graduation, career and employment readiness, while maintaining the rigor and relevance associated with state and federal learning requirements and standards.

Futurus High School is a learning environment that provides quality instruction through guided individual curriculum, blended, and direct approaches. While area high schools might seek placement for students presenting significant behavioral challenges, this is not the purpose of FHS. Futurus serves students who will benefit through alternative educational approaches by demonstrating a commitment in doing so.

Because an ALE program cannot claim students who are not making adequate progress on their Written Student Learning Plan, students failing to make adequate progress must be released to their sending school or need to find enrollment elsewhere; online, homeschool, Open Doors, Gravity program, etc. It is important that students (and parents/guardians) understand this rule and this is made clear during the sending school counseling process, and again during FHS orientation; where they can ask questions for clarification.

Prior to Enrollment

Each student will have to meet with their CHS counselor and then attain an IXL Reading benchmark level of 800+*. each student will also take an IXL Math assessment at the same time.

*It is important to remember that the APEX delivery system used at Futurus is not geared to students who are significantly behind in reading level, and we feel that an 8th grade level in reading would allow a student to be successful with support here at FHS.

Students not completing the orientation requirements will not be enrolled at FHS. Since FHS is a school of choice it is important that students and parents/guardians, understand this rule and this is made clear during the orientation process where they can ask questions for clarification.

Said students will be contracted for one quarter to determine success. If a student is not successful in earning credit during that time they will return to their sending school or choose another school for their academic needs. This is in place so that a student does not fall behind, or further behind.

FHS Orientation Dates:

TBD

Enrollment

Prospective in-district students (grades 11 and 12) will submit an online, completed FHS enrollment form to the FHS office prior to orientation days. Students of CHS wishing to attend FHS must first have a conversation with their CHS counselor who then inform FHS that it is okay to submit an application. Submitting an application does not guarantee a spot. Once accepted, an orientation must be attended by parent/guardian and student with no exceptions.

Prospective out-of-district students will submit an Inter-district Transfer Form signed by both district superintendents, as well as a completed Futurus High School online application, and attend an orientation. This orientation must be attended by parent/guardian and student with no exceptions.

Students with special needs will require prior approval from the IEP/504 team at CHS to determine if  the placement at FHS is appropriate. If the team decides that the placement is appropriate an FHS orientation with parent/guardian will take place. Students enrolled at FHS with special needs will  be required to meet state/district graduation requirements, e.g., state testing.

We would like to remind you that magic words such as hello, please, you’re welcome, I’m sorry, and thank you, all begin to be learned at home.

Home is also where they learn to be organized, to take good care of their belongings, and that it’s not ok to touch others.

Here at school, on the other hand, we teach language, math, history, geography, physics, sciences, and physical education.

We only reinforce the education that children receive at home from their parents.

We are a school of choice that caters to students in grades 11-12+ within the district, as well as its surrounding districts.

The mission is to provide students with options toward graduation and earning their high school diploma.
